Thistle

Myrtle Beach golfers have a new reason to head for the border, even if it’s just for the day. Only minutes north of the State line in Sunset Beach near the village of Calabash, the new Thistle Golf Club offers one of the most beautiful and challenging 27-hole layouts on the Grand Strand. Thistle takes its name from an ancient Scottish golf society dating back to the early 1800′s, and the course layout posses a distinct Scottish links feel, with wind-swept fairways, large bentgrass greens and surrounding hillsides covered in heather and wild flowers.

At Thistle Golf Club, our attention to detail is evident throughout – from the design and conditioning of the course to the attentive service you receive the moment you arrive. You’ll sense right away that we appreciate you being here at Thistle. Our daily golf fees include a complementary yardage book. Another important note, our tee times are spaced twelve minutes apart to establish a comfortable pace for each group.

The Creation of the Thistle Golf Club began with a beautiful piece of land and a talented course designer, Tim Cate, who knows the soil, the terrain and the climate. He learned his trade from noted architect Willard Byrd, and is already highly regarded in his own right with several outstanding courses to his credit. Our instructions to Tim were simply: “create a course that is ferocious to the eye, yet fair to the average golfer.” The result is that and more! The skillful blending of natural elevation changes and wetlands with carefully carved bunkers and large green complexes is visually stunning.
