The Bog

Located in Saukville, The Bog is the Milwaukee area’s top rated golf course, and viably so. An Arnold Palmer signature course, The Bog is a hilly track that rolls through the Cedarburg Bog, and ritually plays host to some of the state’s top amateur events.

What The Bog is best at is crafty par fours. Hole 12, for example, is an outstanding short par four. Using a mid-iron to hit the corner of the fairway (aim left of the large tree) will leave a wedge to a well-guarded, narrow green that is fronted by a creek, backed by a pond and surrounded by woods. This is a fantastic golf hole!

The Bog is a tough course to figure out, with multiple blind shots. The varied shot positions greatly benefit the golfer with previous Bog experience. Conditions across the fairways and greens are good and consistent. Greens are large and quick yet receptive. There are birdies galore here, just not many involving a ball and a hole.

The practice facilities are excellent. The landing areas on many holes were quite tight, but the best of the Bog is in the challenges it presents. Hole 2 is one such enjoyable challenge. A 200-yard center fairway tee shot is ideal for a reasonable approach to a well-protected green. Good luck holding the green on 4. And the front concludes with the spectacular 9th. You’ll likely be safe, right, on your first two shots, with a short downhill approach for your third, but you better hit the green and stick it.
